Viacom and Netflix weren’t able to come up with a new deal this week. This seems to be an ongoing trouble for Netflix not being able to keep exclusive deals with the major studios.
Now, Amazon Prime is going to be making some more headway with growing their brand that still isn’t hit the front of consumers heads when thinking of a streaming media service.
This deal brings TV shows and movies currently under the Viacom umbrella. Viacom owns MTV, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. among other TV studios, but these are the most lucrative. More than 4,000 TV shows are included in this Viacom package.
With this deal, Amazon gains shows like Tosh.O and Awkward from MTV. Nickelodeon sends children’s hit shows like Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants and Blues Clues to their catalog. These will fit in nicely with the new Amazon created children’s shows.
Amazon Prime is more than just a streaming video service though. They originally rolled this program out to provide benefits to Amazon shoppers like free two day shipping on all purchases, without the $25 minimum needed. They then expanded to free book borrowing on the Amazon Kindle and Amazon Prime Instant Video.
